Dutch, English, German, and French language lessons in the Bay Area
I offer high-quality, effective language lessons in the San Francisco Bay Area for students learning Dutch, English, German, and French. My study plans are custom-tailored for language learners of any ability – from those just beginning to pick up basic vocabulary and grammar to students who are already more advanced. Lessons can also be oriented around a specific purpose, including key language skills for interacting in the work environment, when first moving abroad, or for vacation.
Having grown up in the Netherlands, teaching the Dutch language is my specialty. I have been teaching the language for over 20 years to students aged 10 through adult and currently work with several clients from all over the Bay Area. I love to mix-in Dutch culture and traditions into our language lessons – sharing my love for this small country!
I also offer lessons in business-focused English, French, and German. I have specifically worked with corporate clients from several large companies. Currently, I am working at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco as an ESL instructor. Working with a diversity of students with different language goals, I have honed a dynamic and enthusiastic teaching style that enhances the development of language fluency and the learner's speaking confidence.
My lessons are private and take place in my home in the East Bay or at a convenient location elsewhere. Individual students, couples, and small groups are all welcome. If you are interested, please get in touch and we can set up time for a cup of coffee to discuss your goals.

Mijn naam is Elvier
I've been living in the San Francisco Bay Area for almost ten years, and recently moved to the East Bay. I immigrated from the Netherlands in 1985 – first to Oregon, where I raised my children and received my M.A. in Foreign Languages and Literature (focusing on German and French) from Portland State University.
After teaching German and French at Southern Oregon University and tutoring ESL students, I received a scholarship at the Goethe Institut in Munich, Germany, where I lived for 13 years teaching English and Dutch.
I returned to the United States to be closer to my family and to explore new experiences. I currently am working with ESL students at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and teach Dutch to several regular clients.
As you can probably tell, I love to travel, meet new people, learn of other cultures and traditions, and practice languages (I'm really focusing on my Spanish)! I love nature and try to get out on my bike whenever possible. I am very enthusiastic about my work and am excited to start with new students.
